ACIE Professional Series:
An Introduction to Charity Accounting & Independent Examination
course aims: this two-day course aims to introduce participants to the:
- Principles of Charity Accounting and the form and content of charity accounts as required by the Charities SORP (FRS102)
- Principles and practicalities of undertaking an Independent Examination and the Charity Commissions’ Directions to independent examiners
Participants will have little previous knowledge or experience in charity accounting but will be familiar with generally accepted accounting principles and reporting. They are likely to be qualified or experienced accountants and may have experience of auditing, but will be unfamiliar with independent examination.
The cost includes course notes, refreshments and lunch during both days.

ACIE member: £300.00
ACIE VIE* member: £150.00 (contact the office to confirm your Voluntary Independent Examiner status and request the VIE booking code)
Non ACIE member: £500.00 (the non-member fee includes ACIE Affiiate membership to 31 March 2018 - at which point, you will be invited to renew)

cancellations: if once having booked, you find you are unable to attend, please confirm this as soon as possible with the ACIE office in writing. If it is possible for us to find a replacement attendee, then a partial refund may be made, but this will be at the discretion of the ACIE Trustees.
trainer: Sarah A Smith (Mrs) BSc (Hons) FCCA FCIE. Sarah has been in Practice since 1992, building up to employing 4 members of staff, serving around 300 tax and charity clients in Bucks/Oxon. Relocating back to her home county of Leicestershire in 2013 she continues with a smaller portfolio of mainly charity clients, who span the full range of work, from new charities just registering to established organisations with £3.5 million turnover. Sarah lectures in both UK taxation and charity accounting & governance, and is a published technical author.
*ACIE VIE members: members acting on a voluntary basis are entitled to attend at the reduced rate, providing they have confirmed that they have met the two conditions:
a) they have personally acted as an Independent Examiner for at least one charity in the last year; and
b) they act purely on a voluntary basis - neither they, nor any firm or organisation they are engaged with has more than £250.00 income per year in relation to work on independent examination.
